Paul Baloche visits the 700 Club again and talks about writing a worship song, and how God births a song through him. He says “it usually happens in the midst of worship”. Paul also talks here about thinking of becoming a priest as a young Christian.  He notes the songs on his new album Glorious, came out of his own church and taken from New Testament themes. “The songs we sing form our theology”.

SUSAN BOYLE’S I DREAMED A DREAMED DEBUT CD TO BE DISTRIBUTED BY INTEGRITY MUSIC TO CHRISTIAN RETAIL
MOBILE, Ala. – Oct. 28, 2009 – Susan Boyle inspired the world earlier this year with her undiscovered vocal gifts on “Britain’s Got Talent.” Now, Integrity Music will partner with Sony Music to release her debut CD, culminating her journey from former church volunteer to global recording artist. Boyle’s CD I Dreamed a Dream will be released on Nov. 23 with Integrity Music distributing the record to Christian retail.
Boyle surprised the world with her powerful, heart stopping voice when she walked onto the “Britain’s Got Talent” stage. With I Dreamed A Dream, she will, once again, defy preconceptions. The collection of gospel, standards and classic pop songs is expected to be one of the biggest-selling records of the year, already setting records as the largest CD pre-order in the history of the Amazon.com.

I Dreamed a Dream was produced Steve Mac (Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Il Divo). The 12-song disc demonstrates Susan Boyle’s extensive musical ability and reflects her inspiring story. Featuring her now-signature songs “I Dreamed a Dream” and “Cry me a River” and soaring renditions of gospel hymns “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace,” the album also includes her unique interpretation of pop songs like Rolling Stones “Wild Horses” and The Monkees “Daydream Believer.” “Who I Was Born To Be” is an original recording written specially for Boyle, while the plaintive and reverent “Silent Night” is sure to become a new, old Christmas favorite.
The 48-year-old Boyle lived an anonymous life in her small village in Scotland, caring for her aging mother and volunteering at Our Lady of Lourdes church. Boyle always wanted to be a singer, but her music performances were confined to singing in church and karaoke at pubs in her village. Boyle has said that her mother had encouraged her to audition for “Britain’s Got Talent,” but it was only after her death in 2007 that Boyle determined to seek a musical career in honor of her mother.
The rest of the story is already legendary. Boyle shot to worldwide recognition following her audition appearance on “Britain’s Got Talent” in April 2009 singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Miserables.” Her performance was quickly posted on YouTube and went viral, reaching 100 million viewers around the world in less than two weeks. That video has been viewed by 300 million people. That she placed second on the “Britain’s Got Talent” final was of no consequence as the singer had already triumphed at winning the hearts of the world.
Boyle will spend a great deal of time in the U.S. around the release of her debut. Some of her appearances include “Today” show on Nov. 23, “The View” on Nov. 27 and “Dateline” on Nov. 27.
The complete track listing for I Dreamed A Dream with comments from Boyle (in italics):
1.) “Wild Horses” – ‘Couldn’t drag me away’. How could you help but be drawn in by this haunting theme? It conjures up memories of childhood amongst Council Estates, poverty and struggle in the first verse. Irony and bitterness – One of my personal favorites and an emotional release.
2.) “I Dreamed A Dream” – Obviously from the musical ‘Lès Mis!’ It’s about a mother living in hard times. Very similar to my dream on a more personal level, of my ‘life gone by’ with mum who dies at the age of 91 and whose dream it was that I should ‘do something’ with my life. Mum this is for you.
3.) “Cry Me A River” – About bitterness and anger as a relationship between a boy and girl has ended. This timeless song is from the film ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’. A release of tension and a greater insight into the human condition.
4.) “How Great Thou Art” – A hymn which has a great personal meaning to me as it reminds me of my friend who liked to sing this hymn in church.
5.) “You’ll See” – About determination, independence and the ability to show them what you are made of. Doubt sows disbelief. This is about turning this around. This song is a kind of beacon. A way of keeping going. My productive anger. My way of getting rid of the labels which have been unfair.
6.) “Daydream Believer” – ‘The tears of yesterday don’t mean a thing’. There is happiness out there for everyone who dares to dream.
7.) “Up To The Mountain” – Reassurance, love and the ability to keep going no matter what ’slings and arrows of outrageous fortune’ life thows at you. God is our Light.
8.) “Amazing Grace” – About revelations. About finding your way. Everything was new to me. I was Scared, Hope it’s better. I know it can be with your continued support which I find both comforting and humbling.
9.) “Who I Was Born To Be” – Ambition, fate, call it what you will, but who was I born to be? Mum must have picked this for me.
10.) “Proud” – This is about conflict between a parent and his son. The dilemmas most youngsters find themselves up against. My dilemma was finding my own identity – a conflict, if you like, with myself.
11.) “The End of the World” – Don’t be silly! It’s only the beginning! I want you all to enjoy some more!
12.) “Silent Night” – Was first made public in Germany during a service on Christmas Eve. A touching hymn at Christmas – hope you like it.
The UPC for I Dreamed A Dream is 000768476628. The release date of Nov. 23 is on a Monday rather than the usual Tuesday street date to allow for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Paul Baloche: A Glorious Journey

Posted in Paul Baloche, Worship Leader Article with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 29, 2009 by Integrity Music

As believers, we all have signposts for our journey of faith—the day we encounter our Savior, the challenges that uncover our deep need for Him, the moments we experience God’s faithfulness.

For Paul Baloche, this spiritual journey is marked by songs—music that has moved from personal touchstones to collective signposts for millions of believers. Intimate prayers that have become global anthems.baloche

“Songwriting is a big part of my spiritual life,” Baloche shares. “It helps me go deeper with God. It helps me fix my mind on Jesus, to set my mind on things above. It keeps my own heart fresh and alive, for myself, my family and the church.”

“When I’m writing songs,” Baloche says, “I think, ‘Will this help the church worship God? Will this help people connect with Him?’ I want to make music that they can believe in.”

And the church has responded. Baloche is one of the most acclaimed worship artists and songwriters of our time. Winner of two Dove Awards, he has penned radio hits such as “Because of Your Love,” “Hosanna (Praise Is Rising),” “All the Earth Will Sing Your Praises” and “Our God Saves,” and written top-ranking CCLI songs and modern-day classics including “Above All,” “Open the Eyes of My Heart,” “Offering” and “Your Name.” In short, Baloche writes songs that the church worldwide sings. His songs have been translated into Spanish, Korean, French, Portuguese and more. It’s a calling he doesn’t take lightly.

“When I’m writing worship songs,” Baloche notes, “I realize that I’m putting words into the mouths of God’s people. I’m giving them a vocabulary to sing back to God. And when they sing those words, hopefully it will act as a catalyst in their hearts, so something will happen in them. Because when we sing something, it goes down deep into our soul.”

Nowhere is Baloche’s love for the church more apparent than at his own local congregation, Community Fellowship in Lindale, Texas, where he is celebrating 20 years as worship pastor. His dedication to his own church is a testament to his faithfulness and commitment to community—local and global.

Marking Baloche’s landmark journey in music and ministry is Glorious, an all-new collection of songs that reflects his heart and his passion for the church. As with all his recordings, Glorious encouraged Baloche to examine the road so far.

“It’s an excuse and a reason to force my heart to go deeper, to reach down and say, ‘What do I believe now? What’s going on in my heart for real?’ I don’t want to just say words and phrases. So when I sing it, I believe it.”

The result is Baloche’s trademark blend of music, ministry and message, all interwoven with a unifying passion to draw people closer to the Savior.

Glorious is about the adventure of being led by a living, active God,” Baloche says. “It’s about looking beyond the cross, to look behind the mystery, to see the risen Savior; for us to live in the new covenant idea that Jesus Christ is alive in us. Instead of only looking back 2,000 years, we see the risen Christ now. Learning to be led by His Spirit, guided by His Spirit and to discern the language of His Spirit.”

The songs highlight Baloche’s ability to transform personal revelations into universal truths that resonate with every believer. The record’s title track suggests another anthem for the church, a song that looks back to one of Baloche’s most memorable musical signposts, “Open the Eyes of My Heart.”

Baloche recalls: “My pastor told me that ‘Glorious’ feels like an answer to ‘Open the Eyes of My Heart.’ That original cry of my own heart. ‘Glorious’ paints a picture of seeing Jesus for who He is, as the risen Christ and the living God.”

The album’s first single, “Just to Be With You,” offers a different, though no less profound, view of our God and our reliance on Him.

“‘Just to Be With You’ is simply about intimacy with God,” Baloche says. “With all of the stuff in this world that overwhelms us, no matter what happens, all I want is to be with [Him] as I’m walking through this life.”

“Shaken,” a powerful track written by Baloche’s wife, Rita, acknowledges the uncertain times we live in while sharing the solace found by resting in God no matter what life brings our way.

“Life is going to shake us,” Baloche says. “Storms are going to come. The only thing that’s going to remain is what we’ve invested in God … sinking our roots down deep into God’s Spirit.”

Filled with songs of hope, praise and adoration, Glorious affirms Baloche’s legacy as one of today’s premiere worship artists and songwriters. But he desires to give more than music to the church. Through Leadworship.com and a variety of resource materials that he developed, Baloche is committed to encouraging and equipping the next generation of worship leaders.

“I wanted to create a site where people could get ideas and resources, to address the need to create community and journey in churches. Instead of making Sunday morning worship a concert, I’m interested in making Sunday morning the un-concert. Through music, we want to help people connect with God and make an environment where it’s easier to do that.”

Twenty years of music ministry, 23 years of marriage (and three children), 11worship recordings including Glorious, a new French language CD, an album recorded in South Korea, numerous well-loved songs: All are signposts on a remarkable journey.

As Baloche reflects on the road so far, he remains committed as ever to what matters most.

“I’m just trying to press into God, to keep my own heart right, and to encourage and help the church worship.”
